It finances sustainable enterprises and projects to achieve financial results that maximise economic, social and environmental development for the Latin-American and the Caribbean regions. IDB Invest is owned by its member countries – 26 Latin American and the Caribbean countries and 21 countries from North America, Asia and Europe.
IDB Invest provides financing through loans, investments in debt securities, guarantees and equity investments, and arranges additional project funding from other investors and lenders. It also provides financial and technical advisory services.
Sustainable funding strategy
IDB Invest launched its Sustainable Debt Framework in 2021 to provide investors with green, social and sustainability (GSS) bonds and other debt instruments. The framework is aligned with the Green Bond Principles and Social Bond Principles and has received a second-party opinion from Vigeo Eiris.
The Impact Management Framework is an end-to-end toolkit that allows IDB Invest to quantify, track and report the expected and realised impact of its development projects. It maps every project to the UN Sustainable Development Goals based on the impact indicators. The Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy is also applied to all projects financed.
IDB Invest has issued US$1.5 billion worth of GSS bonds in three currencies.
